Importing the .txt file to MAGpie

1. Open MAGpie.

""

2. Create a new project:

  • File – New Project

""

3. To choose your “base media” click browse and navigate to your video file.

It is vital that you specify your media type.

  • If you are working with the Apple QuickTime (.mov) format, choose the Apple Quicktime Player option.

  • If you are using a Windows Media file (.wmv) or a Real Media (.rm) file as your base media, then choose the Oratrix GRINS Player option. MAGpie uses the GRINS player only to play your .rm or .wmv files - it does not convert your file.

Open File Window

4. Enter your author info.

""

5. Edit the other options as needed. Take special note of the Presentation Layout options; it is very important that the dimensions specified here match those of your video. You can also change the size of the caption area if you need to do so.

Click okay to advance.

Open New Project Window

6. Name your track.

Create New Project Track Window

7. From the captions menu, choose Insert Captions From file - or just press "F"

""

8. The .txt file will open and be imported into MAGpie's Caption column. Notice that each caption has either one or two rows of text. Text exceeding two rows will not play back correctly.

""

9. It is a good idea to leave the speaker column blank. The speaker column appears in its own row and, in our experience, it is more space efficient to simply put the name in line with the caption.

""

10. With your captions in place, you can now use MAGpie to apply timecode instructions. These instructions will tell your media player when to play each caption. The end product will look like this.
