Captioning in RealPlayer

Captioning in RealPlayer is very simple. In order to caption for RealPlayer you need three files: a RealMedia video file (.rm), a RealText file (.rt), and a SMIL file (.smi). When you export for RealPlayer from MAGpie, it creates a RealText (.rt) and a SMIL file (.smi) for you. You need to make some simple alterations to the .smi file and then put your video file in the same folder as the other two files.

1. Locate the files exported from MAGpie and put them in a new folder.

2. Open the .smi (SMIL Presentation) file in the text editor.

""

3. Erase all the content and replace it with this text.

<smil>
<body>
<par>
<video src="videofile.rm"/>
<textstream src="captionfile.rt"/>
</par>
</body>
</smil>

4. In the video src tag, replace the "videofile" with the name of your movie.

In the textstream src tag, replace "captionfile" with the name of your real text file (that was generated by MAGpie).

5. Go to Save As and save the file. Be sure to save the file as a .smi and not a .txt

6. This .smi file can only work with your .rm and .rt files if they are all in the same folder.

7. To play the movie with the captions, simply click on the .smi file. For playback on a website, link to the .smi file and make sure the .rm and .rt files are in the same folder.
