System Prep - Java and QuickTime

MAGpie is a java based program and therefore can only run if the right version of java is on your machine. There is a very good chance that a version of java already exists on your machine, and there is also a very good chance that it is the wrong version. To proceed with MAGpie, you'll need to get rid of the older version(s) of java on your machine and then follow a strict procedure for proper installation.

Remove Existing Versions of Java

1. Go to Add/Remove programs under the control panel.

""

2. Remove all versions of java.

Add/Remove Programs

3. To completely remove all remnants, go into the Program Files folder and delete java-related folders manually.

""

4. If errors occur while unistalling java or deleting java folders, make sure nothing that uses java is running . Do this by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and choosing the "processes" tab.

Look for anything with the word "java" or a varient like "ja____", and end the process. Once the proceses using java have been ended, you should be able to unistall java (repeat steps two and three).

Windows Task Manager

5. To double-check that all versions of java are gone, it is a good idea to go to the command line and type "java -version"

To get to the command line, click on Start and choose Run... Type "cmd" in the box and the command line will open.

If your uninstall was a successful, it won't have any versions to list. If it succesfully displays results, then there are versions of java that still need to be removed.
