Discrete Cleaner XL is used to take a source material and
repurpose it into multiple formats, such as QuickTime, RealMedia
and Windows Media. The interface of Cleaner XL is quite different
than either Cleaner 5 and the current Macintosh version Cleaner
6. To accomplish this, you need to set up Cleaner to compress
the source clips using the settings we have provided later
in this lesson.
Adding Clips
- Choose Job | Add Source Media.
- Locate the clip or clips you want Cleaner to process. This
clips will be listed in Sources section
of the Job Window.
Setting Compressing Options
- Right-click on the Output Profile area
of the Job window or use the menu Job:
Add Saved Output Profile. A list of predetermined
settings will appear. If you wish to create a custom Output
Profile select View: Encoder Setting Editor.
Each format has a slightly different dialog window, but basic
settings are largely the same.

- You can modify the settings of the Output Profiles you
add by selecting the profile you wish to alter, and clicking
the "Encoder Setting" button to the right. You
can also add video and audio filters with "Filter Settings" button
that is in the same portion of dialog window.

- Once you have added your source files, the encoder profiles
you wish to use and any filtering options needed, you submit
the job. Select Job: Submit to Job Queue.
- You will be asked to save the job, select Yes.
- The encoding process will begin automatically and proceed
to encode all the source files added using all the out profiles
you have selected.
- The process is similar when using Cleaner 6 on the Macintosh,
but the interface is different - Cleaner 6 also offers some
functionality not available in Cleaner XL.
