Learning Objective: The lecture portion of this course is taught strictly in an online environment. This particular presentation introduces the students to "Old World Wisconsin". From the comfort of his or her own home, the student is able to follow Professor Tishler through the nation's largest outdoor museum of rural life as he explains how the westward migration of pioneers that came to Wisconsin began their lives there. Farmsteads and settlements representing German, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, Polish, Yankee, and African-American pioneers dot nearly 600 acres of rolling, wooded hills. Many of these historical buildings were moved to this unspoiled land to create this wonderful historical setting.

Pedagogical Considerations

Students view 3 thirty-minute lectures each week during the semester. The 40 lectures are all presented to students using Windows Media, and students are able to choose this option if they have high speed internet. They are also able to choose from two other options if their internet connection doesn't enable them to take advantage of the streaming presentation. Using streaming media in this course allows students to view lectures on demand and at their convenience and only requires them to attend one discussion section each week.
