Transferring rich media files across the internet with limited bandwidths
is a monumental technical challenge. Reducing file sizes through data
compression is absolutely necessary. But there are technical limitations
to just how much you can compress media files without causing distortion
and loss of quality.
In the next section we’ll look at reducing the size of media files
for streaming: how it’s done, and what quality you can expect to
get.
